Happy Halloween!

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday! We kept the Hallow day pretty low key this year, but low key certainly doesn’t mean boring.

Saturday night, Ian and I celebrated Halloween “in.” We had a few invitations to go out, but we’re really trying to stick to our budget (preparing for the holidays!). Instead of  going out, we decided to create a fun Halloween-themed meal at home. We made individual mummy pizzas (which really looked like regular pizzas once they came out the the oven, but it’s the thought that counts!). I made Peanut Butter Cup Cookies from a Real Simple recipe. They didn’t turn out so fabulously, so we ate them instead of photographing them. Despite their atrocious appearance, the cookies still taste good. 🙂

After dinner and dessert, we concocted our own version of Dark Cloud Cocktails. The orange and black contrast was very fun and spooky for Halloween. We curled up on the sofa and enjoyed our beverages while watching the Corpse Bride.

Ingredients

1/2 cup orange soda
1 shot orange liqueur
2 shots black vodka*
2 black licorice sticks

*Instead of splurging on expensive black vodka, we used food coloring to dye the vodka black (2 drops each of yellow, red, and blue does the trick).

Directions

In a small pitcher combine the orange soda and orange liqueur. Divide evenly between 2 martini glasses. Slowly pour a shot of black vodka on top of the orange juice mixture so that is floats on top, creating a layered effect. Repeat with second drink. Garnish with a black licorice stick. Enjoy!
