This past weekend, Ian and I took a trip to California to visit my dear friends Andrea and Shanon in the bay area. They were SO accommodating and such incredible hosts! (Andrea picked us up from the airport at 1:00 am Thursday night! And they dropped us off this morning at 6:00am – good friends I’m telling you!)
Ian and I spent Friday wandering around San Francisco and Fisherman’s Wharf. We’ve gone a few times, so we didn’t feel inspired to partake in the typical tourist stuff. We did, however, have some clam chowder in a bread bowl = a must! We also walked around the Aquatic Park at Fisherman’s Wharf, where athletes often train for triathlons, and ventured up to see the famous Lombard Street.
Andi and Shanon had to work on Friday, so we met up with them for happy hour at Shanon’s favorite brewery, Drake’s Brewing. The beer was delicious!
Saturday we drove out to Lodi, a wine region well-known for Zinfandel. We had so much fun tasting at smaller and much less crowded wineries (Napa was sure to be a crazy zoo this weekend!). We started at Klinker Brick, then on to M2, and ended at the Michael David Winery, home of the 7 Deadly Zins. The grounds at MDW were pretty spectacular, and it was a relaxing way to end the day. The boys played Cornhole (also known as bean bag toss) while Andi and I enjoyed a glass of zin surrounded by beautiful gardens.
On the way home from wine tasting we stopped at a street-side market for some fresh cherries, tomatoes, and nectarines. YUM!
Sunday we relaxed! Andi and I got manicures and pedicures and prepared for a Mexican-themed BBQ they were hosting that night. All the neighbors came over and we ended our stay in California surrounded by friends, families, good food, and fun conversation. It was pretty fantastic!
Clearly, the housework and reno have been completely neglected this month. Oops! Sometimes life happens, and that’s a good thing! This week is my last week at work before summer vacation (woohoo!!!) and I have a list of house goals to accomplish this summer. We’ll get crackin’ later this week and I’ll post progress pictures soon. 🙂
