Hello! Happy official summer!!! This may not be a big surprise to anyone, but June 21st is my absolute favorite day of the year. I just love summer and everything it has to offer. (Not to mention all the extra time to catch up on everything I neglect during the school year!)
Three weeks into my summer vacation and I already feel like I’m trucking along on my summer to do list. First on the agenda was to take better care of myself and get back into shape. I’ve started going to acupuncture again and I already feel more like me and so much better! I go to a community acupuncture, which helps keep the cost down because the place offers a sliding scale of $20-$40 – clients pay whatever they can afford. So helpful and affordable!
I’m also training for a triathlon. I’m two weeks into training and following Hal Higdon’s Triathlon 2 training program, which is the one I used for my previous tri and really enjoyed. So far, training is going really well. I already feel stronger and can feel my body regaining strength and stamina. I actually WANT to workout now instead of begrudgingly going through the motion because I know I should. It’s a good feeling.
Most importantly, I’m taking time to slow down and relax. I’ve already read two just-for-fun books and I’m looking forward to polishing off a few more before summer’s end. And I rarely say no to an afternoon cat nap.
This summer, I’m also trying to make more time for family and friends. I’ve already been all over the state visiting friends and have scheduled and enjoyed several happy hours with friends from work. Ian and I recently enjoyed an evening in Boulder with his parents and treated his mom and step dad to a delicious meal at the Kitchen.
My wonderful mom visited last week and we are already missing her (especially Deke who just loves my mom!). She was able to spend lots of time with her friends and family and spent three relaxing days lounging around with us. It was SO nice!
We’ve been getting quite a lot of work done around the house, too! Ian and I made a schedule of work-to-be-completed before we have our hardwood floors installed in the kitchen and hallway, which will probably happen near the end of July. We’re cranking out our projects and the pantry/mud room areas are really starting to take shape! The walls are all framed and there’s a pretty clear distinction between the two rooms. Check it out:
Now: (still progress!)
We also *finally* vented our dryer outside. Our dryer has been venting into the garage since we bought our house. Whatever genius planned that was, well, not a genius! I had to crack the garage every time I dried a load of laundry, and now that the wall separating the garage and laundry room is gone, the entire house felt muggy and hot every time I did laundry. Not only was it unpleasant, it was also a bit of a safety hazard. But that is all in the past!
Drilling through the brick outside to create a hole for the vent was no joke, but we powered through and now our dryer vents outside like it should. 🙂
Our grass is growing in where we planted the new grass seed. Hopefully the dogs will stay off an allow the grass to flourish.
Now, on to MY summer to do list. I’m making progress considering I’ve only really had about a week to start on it all:

- Paint front door wall and trim
- Trim living room window
- Paint west wall
- Add and paint trim

A mini project I completed was updating the pulls on the old dresser left by the previous owner of our house. The dresser is beautiful, but looked really dated:
A small update to the hardware, and now we have an awesome modern dresser!
And last but not least, the photos from our nasty hail storm last weekend. We had hail as big and bigger than a ping pong ball! 😛
Our roof was destroyed along with severe hail damage to my car. We’re getting a new roof, thankfully, and I’m not overly concerned about my car. It still runs and the damage is only cosmetic. The storm also tore up our poor trees. I’ve already filled seven trash bags with leaves (so excited for fall…). The storm was crazy and I’m praying to the weather gods that we don’t have another. C’est la vie, I suppose.
Hopefully I’ll have more fun updates and adventures to share in the next few weeks. Happy summer, one and all! Get out and enjoy the sunshine!
